Some fresh news about the highly anticipated "The Last of Us 2" has brought in fresh updates on its development, story and possible release dates of the upcoming title. Naughty Dog revealed that the sequel to the popular 2013 action-adventure survival horror video game is in early stages of production and that it will have an incredible storyline, although, it is far off from its official launch.

These latest details on "The Last of Us 2" came out straight from the head of Naughty Dog, President Evan Wells. The head of developer recently talked about the upcoming single-player DLC for "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" titled "Uncharted: Lost Legacy" in an interview with Game Informer. 

Wells discussed how stuff looks like at the studio now from that time when Naughty Dog was thinking of having two teams while it was still developing the first TLOU title. He explained that they were all kept on their toes with game development back then that creating two full teams didn't work out as planned. Thus, what they did was have a team and a quarter or a team and a third and that relied on the given time of the year. 

So case in point, Wells emphasized that by the time the team assigned to work on "The Lost Legacy" is done with it, this group of 200 persons will be deployed to focus on "The Last of Us 2" next. 

 The Naughty Dog boss further revealed about the story pitch from writer Neil Druckmann just recently. He teased fans that the story of "The Last of Us 2" and said that it's going to be amazing. 

There's no word on a release time frame for "The Last of Us 2" from Well. However, as per Gamepur, it hasn't reached a full production but is yet in early stages, knowing that most people of the Naughty Dog team are giving full attention to "Uncharted: Lost Legacy". 

"The Last of Us 2" release date could happen in 2019 at the earliest given this current scenario. If the 2019 official launching holds true, the question now is if the game will still see its release on Sony's current gen consoles, the PS4 and PS4 Pro or on the rumored PlayStation 5.
