Facebook has launched a standalone app dedicated to events called Events.
The social network giants frequently spins out its core features when they become successful to grow faster once they become dedicated single-purpose tools. In addition, it gives the company a better chance to gain profit out of it.
The Events for Facebook is placing to discover and manage Facebook events, without having to launch the Facebook app. Its Home tab will give users a summary of events they have accepted, events they might be interested in, and events that their friends are interested in. Users can also search for some events and add them to the list.
Another useful feature of the app is the Calendar tab, where users can see an overview of everything they have signed up for. Users can add other calendars from their phone, making it easy to see any overlapping events, according to Slash Gear. There is also a Search tab that helps users to filter events either by time or location.
“The core thesis behind this app is that if we build something for the people really eager to discover events, people will have a good time,” said Facebook Events product manager Aditya Koolwal.
Events is considered Facebook’s unique and differentiated feature. Facebook’s standalone Events app is now available on iOS, but in the United States only, The Verge reported. The Android version of the app is expected to be launched soon.
