Smart is looking to enlarge its product range in 2017 as it plans to give dual-fuel option on all its vehicles. The company recently announced that all its future models would have gas-powered and electric drive option. It also announced that it would launch two new cars named ForTwo Forfour and ForTwo Cabrio in 2017.

Smart will unveil its ForTwo electric drive at the Paris Motor Show, which is scheduled to start on October 1. This electric vehicle will be up for sale in the Unites States in 2017. The car will come with 80 horse power EV motor, up 19 percent from its current model. It will have a top speed of 81 mph.

The upcoming car will take only 2.5 hours to be fully charged, cutting down the time by almost 50 percent from its predecessor. With one full charge, the vehicle would able to run for 99 miles. Users can check the charging level using an app and adjust the climate controls to optimize the charging.

Smart will also launch its convertible option in the summer of next year. Smart executive Annette Winkler said that all Smart cars would soon have EV option. This will make Smart the only automaker offering dual option to its customers on its entire range.

Smart is making strides as the company has also been picked to supply vehicles to New York Police Department (NYPD). The NYPD is reported to have ordered 250 Smart cars and will use them to replace 3-wheeled enclosed motorcycles which are used for city patrols.
