Acer Introduces Chromebook R 13 Capable of Running Android Apps

Acer has boosted its cache of convertibles with the introduction of the Chromebook R 13, which can be used as a tablet or a laptop. The device runs on Chrome operating system but can also launch Android apps.

The Chromebook R 13 comes with a 13.3 inch full HD screen, which can be swiveled around in 360-degree direction. With this feature, the convertible may be used in laptop mode, display mode, tent mode or simply as a tablet. The screen sports a 1920x1080 resolution and supports 10 point touch input, with Pinch to Zoom, Swipe, and Tap gestures.

On the inside, the laptop features MediaTek M8173C Core Pilot quad-core processor and 4GB LPDDR3 RAM. According to Android Police, the device comes in different storage variants; 16GB, 32 GB or 64GB. It comes with a long-lasting battery, which can last for up to 12 hours on a single charge.

The Chromebook R 13 runs on the Chrome operating system. However, Google has extended support for Android apps to newer Chromebooks including the Chromebook R 13. According to PC World, the support adds to the utility of such 2-in-1s which are fast replacing low-end laptops.

This laptop also supports Bluetooth 4.0, headphone jack, microphone and USB 3.0 port. It has an HD webcam with 1280 x 720 resolution and High Dynamic Range imaging capability. It can support out audio and video recording in 720p HD format.

The Acer Chromebook R 13 is lightweight at 3.28 pounds (1.49kg) and 12.83W x 8.98D x 0.61H inches dimensions. The device would be available in North America and EMEA markets in October for about $399.
