"Left 4 Dead 3" will feature new playable characters, a rumored launch date next year and plot details will serve as a prequel for the past games.

It seems that the popular first-person zombie survival video game, "Left 4 Dead" will be making a comeback for the fourth generation consoles and the PC platform as game publisher Valve is working on a third instalment of the zombie shooter franchise, "Left 4 Dead 3" this year.

According to Express UK, the upcoming "Left 4 Dead 3" title is rumored to launch sometime in 2017 as four characters have already been revealed and like the previous "Left 4 Dead" video games it will consist of three male characters and a one female. The female character in the game will be named Katherine, while the three make characters are named Irvin, a gangster, a comic book nerd Keenan and a Kempo fighter Garett Jr.

Aside from the characters and possible launch date, "Left 4 Dead 3" will have six campaigns which includes previous campaigns such as "No Mercy", "Cliff-Hanger", "Early Destination", "Crashland", "Impasse" and "Inquisitor".

The third instalment is rumored to be a prequel before the events of the of the first game, as Valve stated that they are working on a zombie prequel video game title. The story itself will discover the origins of zombie virus that plagued the whole world and will end one month after, The Christian Today reported.

With Valve working on "Left 4 Dead 3" it seems that "Half-Life 3" will be put on hold for sometime, given the popularity of the zombie shooter game. "Left 4 Dead" was so popular that video game titles such as "Zombie Army Trilogy", "Minecraft" and "PayDay" incorporated certain elements from it.

Past reports claim that due to the massive success of previous game, "Left 4 Dead 2", Valve is giving the preferential treatment to the development of the next instalment, even at the cost pf putting other video game franchises like "Half-Life" on hold.

However, this does not mean that Valve will be shutting down "Half-Life 3" as Valve found Gabe Newell stated that they are nor currently making "Half-Life" titles and the developers will decide if they plan on making the third instalment soon.

The first "Left 4 Dead" video game was first launched in 2008 and it was created by Turtle Rock Studios and published by Valve for the PC, Xbox 360 and Mac OS X. In 2009, "Left 4 Dead 2" was developed and published by Valve due to the first game being massive hit and looks to continue its success.

Gamers will expect new gameplay details for "Left 4 Dead 3" this year before its intended launch on 2017.
