Activision to release Ghostbusters game for PS4, Xbox One this July

Activision has just launched an announcement trailer for its new Ghostbusters game that will coincide with the reboot of the 1984 blockbuster movie. The new video game will be launched for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PCs on July 15. A new team of ghost hunters battle scary phantoms around New York City.

The Ghostbusters game is a four-player couch co-op that includes four characters with different strengths and personalities, according to Engadget. It is set after the events of the original movie.

This game features a brand new team battling ghosts while the core team of Abby, Erin, Jillian, and Patty are away. The new recruits are made up of two men and two men, but their names have not been announced yet.         

Players can level up gear and abilities by defeating ghosts and other creepy creatures, finding hidden items and claiming objectives.

Meanwhile, Ghostbusters: Slime City is a mobile game that will be available for iOS and Android devices. It will be a co-op title that allows gamers to move up leaderboards by collecting ghosts and building proton packs with items and gear that are collected, according to Comicbook. Players also have the chance to customize their base.  

The Ghostbusters game will launch on July 12, while Slime City will roll out on the App Store and Google Play sometimes in July.  

Sony's reboot of the 1984 comedy film is set to be released on July 15. The first trailer was released early last month.

In related news, it has been less than half a year since Activision Blizzard launched its eSports subsidiary. The company reports that its Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major Championship has set competitive video gaming records.

Viewers watched 45 million hours of live broadcast during the five-day event. Meanwhile, the event racked up 71 million views.  

Mike Sepso is senior vice president of Activision Blizzard Media Networks. He reports that last year over 225 million people viewed competitive gaming.  Virtual reality and eSports have become popular sectors.

Last December Activision bought Major League Gaming (MLB) for $46 billion. That provides the company with a platform for hosting tournaments and building relationships with TV networks including ESPN.
