Apple's new tablet, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro is fueled by an underclocked Apple A9X chipset and 2 GB of RAM. This shows that the 12.9-inch is the most powerful tablet from the company.

Before the official announcement of the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, the tablet was expected to come with Apple A9X chipset and 4 GB of RAM. It is the same chipset and RAM combo that powers the 12.9-inch iPad Pro that was released in September 2015.

The A9X that powers the 9.7-inch has been underclocked to work at 2.16 GHz and it is coupled with 2 GB of RAM, Apple Insider reported. The clocking speed of 12.9-inch IPad Pro is 2.24 GHz.

The Apple A9X SoC of the larger iPad Pro works 2.5 times faster than the Apple A7 SoC that powers devices like iPad Air, iPad Mini 2 and iPad Mini 3. The A9X chip of 9.7-inch iPad Pro functions 2.4 times faster than the A7 chipset. This shows that the Cupertino company has underclocked the A9X chipset for the 9.7-inch iPad Pro.

When it comes to graphics, the A9X chip in the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is 5 times better than A7. However, the graphics of the newly launched tablet is 4.3 times better than what A7 can deliver. Better dissipation of heat and lasting battery performance are some of the reasons why Apple may have underclocked the chipset of the 9.7-inch IPad Pro, Phone Arena reported.

The 12.9-inch iPad Pro has 4 GB of RAM. However, the GeekBench snapshots of the newly launched iPad Pro indicates that it is packed with 2 GB of RAM. The 4-inch iPhone SE that was revealed recently also features 2 GB of RAM.

The larger iPad Pro has a USB 3 equipped Lightning port. However, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro has a USB 2 equipped Lightning port. This means that the new iPad Pro will deliver slower data transfer compared to the larger model.

The 9.7-inch iPad Pro with only Wi-Fi connectivity is priced at $599, $749 and $899 for its 32 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB models, respectively. Its Wi-Fi + Cellular variant costs $729, $879 and $1029 for 32 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB models, respectively. The 9.7-inch iPad Pro preorders have started from today and its shipping will begin from March 31.
