Xiaomi Mi5 update: Confirmed to be released on Feb. 24; Will have 2 variants – 3GB RAM, 4GB RAM

Christian Post reported that launch date was also revealed through tweets by Xiaomi's Vice President and co-founder Liwan Jiang and Xiaomi India head- Manu Kumar Jain. A teaser image of Mi5 was posted on Facebook by Xiaomi's global product director Hugo Barra for a press event. However, the company is yet to reveal specs of Xiaomi Mi5 smartphone.

According to Digital Trends, Xiaomi has initiated Mi5's mass production and aims to fill up shelves immediately after China's Spring Festival in end-February.

Leaks on internet speculate that new Xiaomi Mi5 smartphone shall sport a Snapdragon 820 chipset, run on Android Marshmallow, will be equipped with a Qualcomm fingerprint sensor and will feature a whopping 16 MP camera.

It is speculated that Mi5 shall be released in two versions - one shall run on 3GB of RAM with 16 GB of in-built storage, while the other shall run on 4GB of RAM with 64 GB of in-built storage.

GS Marena reported that Mi5 shall also be made available with a Windows 10 variant, which shall be similar to its Android model. Earlier, there were also rumors that the smartphone will have a QHD display; however, these rumors were quashed by Liwan Jiang who mentioned that the phone will sport a 1080 pixel display.

It was also reported that two new models of Mi5 shall come with different looks. Both variants shall have a front physical home button, a 2.5D glass on their front panel and may be available in four colors - black, white, gold and pink. Mi5 is rumored to have a powerful battery, and may have a 16 MP primary camera and 8 MP front camera with optical image stabilization features. Both Mi5 variants will also likely to sport a USB Type- C charging port.
