AMD is known for its outstanding computer processors and graphics cards. However, the company is reportedly making virtual reality headsets in collaboration with Nitero.
AMD has established a name for itself as one of the best companies for technological advancements and innovations. But it seems like that the company is not yet done with its surprises for the customers as it is preparing to enter the field of virtual reality headsets.
According to Engadget, AMD has announced its interest in purchasing the intellectual property and key engineering talent from Nitero. Nitero is a company that focuses on manufacturing 60GHz wireless chips for both augmented reality and VR devices.
Nitero is famous for its low-latency performance in room-scale VR environments. Low latency is a great means to prevent headaches and nausea, which are the usual effects of using virtual reality headsets.
"Unwieldy headset cables remain a significant barrier to drive widespread adoption of VR," MD Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President, Mark Papermaster, said in an interview. "Our newly acquired wireless VR technology is focused on solving this challenge and is another example of AMD making long-term technology investments to develop high-performance computing and graphics technologies that can create more immersive computing experiences."
Tech Crunch reiterated that as VR headsets continue to grow; companies are promising that 5G, battery tech, GPUs, wireless transmission technology, and high-resolution displays would continually improve as well.
AMD is yet to release any information about its collaboration with Nitero.
