The revealed specs for the Xbox Project Scorpio confirmed that not only the upcoming Microsoft console is huge step up from the Xbox One, the gaming machine is also destined to out-spec the Sony PlayStation 4 Pro. But it is the latter that is poised to emerge the winner in an epic showdown.

Truth to be told, Scorpio when it unboxes will have the upper hand in terms of hardware. In a comparison article by WCCFTech, it is the new Xbox that will overwhelm in so many levels. The Scorpio will have a faster 8-core CPU, a more powerful GPU muscle, 12GB of GDRR5 RAM with higher memory bandwidth and storage capacity that starts at 1TB. The console will also include a Blu-ray drive that can play in 4K UHD.

On paper, Project Scorpio will seemingly render the Xbox as the ultimate gaming machine if not for the existence of high-end PC gaming rig. But in the real world, it's unlikely that the PS4 Pro will go down just because its Xbox rival is exploding with hardware testosterone.

The meat of the battle between the two consoles, according to WCCFTech, is all about software supremacy. And to be sure, it is the PS4 that has the advantage when the competition all boils down to game title advantage.

The PS4 game title catalog is rich and that fact didn't happen overnight. Sony's software edge was realized by employing better strategy, which the same report qualified as having "more internal studios ... and better partnerships with third-party developers." As a result, PS4 gamers get to enjoy titles such as Persona 5, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Bloodborne, Horizon: Zero Dawn, NieR: Automata, Nioh and Yakuza 0. But the same cannot be said for the Xbox crowd.

It could be that Microsoft is planning a big surprise and will soon reveal inviting Xbox game titles in time for the E3 2017 that will kick off on June 13 but such a scenario remains to be seen. What's real right now is that the Xbox has all the hardware chops in Project Scorpio but the software superiority that the Sony PS4 Pro offers is something that is hard to match.

And for many gamers, it is the latter advantage that really counts.
