Google Fiber is now inviting residents and businesses in Raleigh, NC to sign up for its 1 Gbps internet service.
The service is available to people who work or live in the midtown area of North Hills Raleigh. Google Fiber services were first made available in a nearby town, Morrisville, last year. Google is offering a variety of plans starting with $50 for 100Mbps, $70 for 1Gbps, $140 for 100 Mbps, and $160 for 1Gbps of internet speed.
Google plans to expand its coverage and services to nearby residents in the area. This includes North Carolina’s Research Triangle metro area namely Chapel Hill and Durham.
In October last year, the company announced it would temporarily halt all Fiber operations including the Fiber services it is currently providing to different cities. This includes Provo, Salt Lake City, Utah, Kansas, Austin, Atlanta, and Charlotte. However, the company also mentioned its plan to provide service to other areas like Orange County, Nashville, San Antonio, and Huntsville. No exact date has been given yet when the company can provide its service to all the areas, but it is expected to happen anytime this year.
Aside from providing internet and TV service, Google Fiber took over Webpass last year. Webpass provides internet services to different cities like Miami, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, San Diego and Oakland. Unlike Google Fiber, Webpass is not offering TV services.
