"SWAT 4: Gold Edition" is finally available again for purchase.  Irrational's great tactical police shooter has been released on GOG.

Fans and collectors can now stop searching online auctions, through bargain bins, garage sales and flea markets looking for that elusive game disc of Irrational Games' 2005 tactical shooter.  The almost mythical game can finally be bought online.

"SWAT 4" is an excellent game that has become well-known due to its stellar gameplay and also for the decade-long difficulty in getting a legal copy of the game.  PC Gamer recently ranked the game as one of the best FPS games in history.

It was a very rare game to find due to its complicated IP rights history.  This made it incredibly hard to get a legitimate copy of the game. In a surprising but welcome development, digital game store GOG has added "SWAT 4: Gold" to its catalog of games for sale on its online store for $10.  Fans and collectors will be pleased with the breakthrough.

Anyone can just imagine all the legal and technical steps CD Projekt, the owner of GOG, had to go through to unravel all the complex tangled up copyright and licensing issues.  All that is water under the bridge and anyone can now buy the game at any time.

Gaming website VG247 reported that "SWAT 4" was developed by Irrational Games and was released in 2005.  The game was both a critical and financial success.  The game differs from other first person shooters in that killing criminals and getting involved in firefights must be avoided and has to be the very last option when dealing with suspects.

The Gold Edition being sold on GOG includes the base game and the Stetchkov Syndicate expansion.  GOG adds HD wallpapers and scans of the manuals.  The manuals are necessary since the game does not depend on just shooting at everything that moves.

The best outcome for the game is a clean arrest without any fatalities, especially that of civilians.  Proper police procedures must also always be followed in "SWAT 4."
