The LG G5 will be reportedly introduced in the next few weeks and it will certainly tussle head-on with the Samsung Galaxy S7. A new report said that the sequel to the LG G4 packs one unique feature that will upend not only the GS7 but also most of its Android rivals.
According to 9to5Mac, the G5 will unbox in premium unibody metal like the Galaxy S7 but LG's flagship will have the distinction of allowing users to replace the device's battery. "This could well be the 'Holy Grail' of smartphones for some buyers who want the flexibility of a removable battery, but also want the premium design and build quality of a slim, unibody phone," the report said.
The G5's removable battery feature will not take the same course seen before, in which smartphones were designed with back covers that can be peeled off thus giving users quick access to the battery cabinet. Instead, the device battery can be switched by pulling out the bottom edge of the flagship device.
"Detaching the bottom edge would be achieved by pressing/sliding the two buttons or catches near the bottom edge, on the left and right edges, above the point where the detachable part is joined to the device," 9to5Google said on its report, pointing to CNET Korea as source of its information.
And with the innovative feature introduced, LG is also set to redesign its flagship by reconfiguring the control keys placement in time for the 2016 version. It is likely that the rear-located volume rocker and power button will be replaced by dual LED flash and laser autofocus for the main camera and right below would be the fingerprint sensor.
The G5 volume controller will be located to the left side of the device. For the home button, it is said that the back fingerprint reader will double as the new home key, which indicates that the front panel will delight with an all-screen rendering.
The new LG G5 design is a huge step up as removable battery in a unibody metal device profile is a new thing that could prove as giant slayer that will kill industry leaders such as Apple's upcoming iPhone 7 and Samsung's Galaxy S7, 9to5Google said.
The LG G5 release date is expected to happen in the immediate weeks following its introduction via the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain next month or March 2016.
