When it comes to work-tracking tools, Asana has focused mainly on a collaborative to-do lists over boards. Its main rival, Trello, however, makes use of boards which many users believe to be an easier way of keeping track of projects and tasks. However, Asana has just moved into Trello territory and has essentially declared war.

Asana co-founder Justin Rosenstein has admitted that Trello was the inspiration for his company to introduce boards, and he wants to give his competitor the credit. This is probably because Asana's Boards is very similar to Trello. Rosenstein has also said that Boards are flexible tools for visualizing work, but it is underpowered.

Adding Boards is an excellent way for Asana to gain more daily users, because to-do lists and boards are powerful when all collaborators are connected. Although both Trello and Asana use freemium models, the former has more users, with a reported 10 million as of last year. Asana has reported that 13,000 business that utilizes it features.

There are other work tracking tools out there like Basecamp and JIRA, Asana may have just gone ahead of all of its competitors with the integration of lists, and boards.
