Samsung is planning to bedeck its upcoming Galaxy S8 smartphone with a digital assistant, based on Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Digital Assistants are fast becoming ubiquitous as major technology companies including Microsoft, Google and Amazon have digital assistants. Apple also has its AI based assistant, Siri.

Samsung had been working towards capturing the AI market. While there is not much information available about Samsung's digital assistant, the company's executive vice president Rhee Injong said that the  Samsung' digital assistant would have features 'significantly different from existing digital assistants'.

Samsung is also looking to take AI beyond the realm of mobile smartphones; it plans to embed the technology in different devices including home appliances. The company had recently acquired AI software manufacturing startup Viv Labs Inc., a startup formed by the creators of Apple's digital assistant, Siri. The South Korean company said that the technology might also be used for wearable devices.

Injong also said Samsung may collaborate with third parties for the use of technology. He said that AI agents tend to get smarter with each new addition to it as it gets to learn new skills. The technology will allow developers to attach and upload services to AI agent. It is likely that Samsung will start offering products with AI by early next year.

Samsung is currently emerging from Galaxy 7 phone debacle. The recall of mobile phone is said to have hit the company's profit by $5.4 billion. The company will look to regain the trust of its customers with the introduction of Galaxy S8.
