The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced last year that they would be extending their authority over e-cigarettes and other tobacco products. The purpose of the inclusion would be to regulate the use of such devices, especially that of the youth.

It has been revealed by the U.S. Surgeon General in its report, "E-Cigarette Use Among Youth and Young Adults," that flavors found in e-cigarettes are one of the main reasons why the youth use them. It was also revealed that e-cigarette aerosol is not safe and that e-cigarette use is strongly associated with the use of other tobacco products, according to American Lung Association.

In the conclusion made by U.S. Surgeon General, it was showcased that e-cigarettes can expose users to several potentially harmful chemicals. Such chemical content may even include nicotine, a substance found in the usual cigarettes.

In one of the lab tests conducted by the FDA, it was known that some cartridges labeled as nicotine-free actually have traceable levels of nicotine. Another concern discovered is the inconsistency of the amount of nicotine in e-liquid refills compared to the ones listed on the package.

In view of the given facts, the government has warned the people of the danger of e-cigarettes. Using it may still be similar to that of using the traditional cigarette.

In retrospect, the nicotine content in most commercial products is being dreaded by experts and consumers alike. It is an active and addictive ingredient that causes the body to seek for more.

Moreover, negative effects of such substance includes but limited to constriction of blood vessels, increasing the blood pressure and stimulating the heart, and raises the blood fat levels, according to Quit Smoking Support.
