LG G6 Plus Revealed: Specs Upgrade, Pricing Details and Important Things to Know

Before releasing the rumored LG V30, LG has decided it wise to give the LG G6 a bit of a step up in the form of the LG G6 Plus. The upgraded handset now boasts of 128GB internal memory, 6GB RAM support, two new color options but still the same Snapdragon 821 chip as main engine.

And contrary to the expectation that the Plus label will mean a larger screen, know that the G6 Plus is very much identical with the original save for the memory and RAM increases. "In fact, all specifications, other than the RAM and storage space, are identical, including the 5.7-inch QHD+ display with rounded corners, the Snapdragon 821 processor, the dual 13MP cameras, and 3300mAh battery," Android Authority reported.

Why the newer and more powerful Snapdragon 835 was again skipped with the G6 Plus could be explained by the imminent intro of the LG V30 that is rumored to come out via the IFA 2017 Berlin trade at the start of September. Most likely, LG would want to use the SD 835 with the V30 to differentiate the line from the LG G6 and G6 Plus.

LG said the G6 Plus will hit the market in July but held back in providing the exact release date. The company, however, indicated that the upcoming OS bump for the original LG G6 will arrive simultaneously with the G6 Plus. As expected, South Korea will get a first crack and other markets will follow shortly.

When the firmware update becomes live, the following upgrades can be expected:

  • Face Print appears to be LG's take on facial recognition, which happens to be one of the authentication methods from the Galaxy S8. The unlocking is supposed to take less than one second.
  • Low Power Consumption is an always-on mode that leverages hardware and software from Qualcomm and Google to collect data from sensors and networks without consuming a lot of power.
  • Finally, Covered Lens will warn users when their fingers are detected in the phone's wide-angle camera field of view.

Also, would-be buyers of the LG G6 Plus will have two extra color options not found on the original. The G6 Plus, according to LG, will retail in Optical Marine Blue and Optical Terra Gold. And the 32-bit Hi-Fi quad DAC audio technology remains part of the deal, which according to The Verge "really sounds great."

LG has yet to provide the specific pricing for the LG G6 Plus but the device is expected to sell at $100 premium from the original or around $750 per unit.
