Grand Theft Auto 5 is an open world, action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC platforms.

New updates for "Grand Thefy Auto 5" will feature the OpenIV mod being take down and will it affect the Liberty City mod's release date.

Popular "Grand Theft Auto 5" modder OpenIV has been shutdown by Take-Two Interactive after the latter sent a "cease and desist" letter to stop them from creating new mods for the sequel. The reason behind it is due to to the fact that OpenIV allows “third parties" to defeat security features of its software and modify that software in violation Take-Two’s rights.

OpenIV creator GooD-NTS took to the "GTA" Forums to announce the closure of the modding tool in "Grand Theft Auto 5" and he will not be taking any further action to try and keep mod from running, stating that although there is the possibility of going to court on the matter, instead the tool will be taken offline.

GooD-NTS added that going to court will take at least few months of their time and huge amount of efforts, and, at best, they will get absolutely nothing, spending time just to restore status quo is really unproductive, and all the money in the world cannot compensate the loss of time, Gamerant reported.

In response, the modding community in "GTA 5" were outraged given that they enjoyed OpenIV's mods within the game. Rockstar Games also commented on the closure of OpenIV and told PC Gamer that Take-Two’s actions were not specifically targeting single player mods. Unfortunately OpenIV enables recent malicious mods that allow harassment of players and interfere with the "GTA Online" experience for everybody.

However, Rockstar is working to figure out how they can continue to support the creative community without negatively impacting other players enjoying "GTA Online."

With that being said, what will happen to the long awaited "Liberty City" mod in "Grand Theft Auto 5" now that OpenIV has been shutdown?

Before the cease and desist letter from Take-Two, OpenIV is still working on the Liberty City mod after they announced that its launch date has been delayed due to scheduling conflicts. GooD-NTS stated that the mod will be in "Grand Theft Auto 5" to a more nebulous, but manageable time frame of 2017.

The mod creator then goes on to make follow-up statements regarding potential questions fans may have about the delay. OpenIV has been working on the Liberty City mod for months as they made an impressive progress on it by teasing gaming fans images and the city is based on the "Grand Theft Auto 4" version.

"Grand Theft Auto 5" is currently available for the PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC platforms.
