World War 3 event is a widely talked about scenario along with the continuous tension between superpowers. A nuclear war and its aftermath are two of the main concerns of experts if indeed another world war will happen.

A testament to the said concern, a study of U.S. atmospheric and environmental scientists modeled what would happen after a "limited, regional nuclear war," According to Popular Science. And such computer models revealed what would exactly happen in the aftermath of a nuclear war.

In an imagined limited and regional nuclear war, it is believed that five megatons of black carbon will enter the atmosphere immediately. After one year, the temperature of Earth falls by by 1.1 kelvin or about two degrees Fahrenheit. And after five years, Earth will be three degrees colder.  

Due to the falling of temperature, the amount of rain will decrease. Our planet will have 9 percent less rain than usual. Thus, ensuing drought in some areas and even famine.

Five years after the war, the Earth's ozone layer would have already depleted. The ozone is 20 to 25 percent thinner, on average for the said period of time.

Although the study is limited only to a small scale nuclear war, it cannot be denied that the experts want to warn us about the long-term effect of such crisis. That is why they are encouraging countries with nuclear weapons to destroy the estimated 17,000 nuclear weapons they still hold.

However, with North Korea trying to take center stage by displaying and proving their nuclear capabilities, such advice may not be applicable as of now. Russia and the United States being aggressive against each other and their claim of supremacy would likewise decrease the chance of abandoning some nuclear weapons. Thus, putting our world on the verge of nuclear war and a potential World War 3.
