It seems that Square Enix will be planning for remakes of "Final Fantasy" sequels soon, starting with "Final Fantasy VIII" from the PlayStation 1 era.

"Final Fantasy XII" director Takashi Katano discussed the possibility of remastered versions of "Final Fantasy VIII" as he told International Business Times that doing this will require lots of time and effort to implement the technology needed to make these games in the current or next generation consoles.

Katano added that several "Final Fantasy" titles from the PlayStation 1 era will likely be made as remakes rather than HD remastered versions.

With that said, It seems that the reception from the "Final Fantasy 7" remake announcement during E3 2015 has forced Square Enix to rethink its approach. The sixth, eighth, and ninth installments in the "Final Fantasy" franchise are all strong contenders for the Japanese publisher to have a remake, SegmentNext reported.

So will gaming fans see a "Final Fantasy 8" remake next after "Final Fantasy 7" remake launched for the PlayStation 4?

Given that the "Final Fantasy" 30th anniversary celebrations is already been in motion from this year to the next, it would make sense for Square Enix to consider revisiting other iconic entries in the series with full on remakes.

"Final Fantasy VIII" is one the most popular sequels in the PlayStation console and was released in 1999. The sequel introduced unique and iconic characters like Squall Leonhart, Rinoa Heartilly, Quistis Trepe, Zell Dincht, Selphie Tilmitt and many more.

The game follows a group of young mercenaries led by Squall, as they are drawn into a conflict sparked by the sorceress Edea. After defeating Edea, Squall learned that she was under the control of Ultimecia, a sorceress from the future who wishes to compress time. During the quest to defeat Ultimecia, Squall struggles with his role as leader and develops a romantic interest in Rinoa, which is the driving force to his mission and the story itself.

For now, Square Enix is busy developing and announcing new contents for "Final Fantasy XIV" and "Final Fantasy XV," not to mention releasing "Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age" on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in July and possible new details on "Final Fantasy 7" remake and "Kingdom Hearts 3" at this year's Electronic Entertainment.

Square Enix will likely announce more details regarding "Final Fantasy 8" remake soon.
