Leaked press shots of the Surface Pro 5 currently circulate on the web ahead of the Microsoft Shanghai event on May 23. The images courtesy of Evan Blass, more popularly known as @evleaks, somehow teased that release date will happen soon after the supposedly confirmed device introduction next week.

Design-wise, the Surface Pro 5 is nearly identical with the Surface Pro 4, which in turn is but a minor upgrade from its predecessor. As noted by WCCFTech in a report, "Microsoft's running out of ideas with the Surface Pro 5. Today's renders ... present very little upgrades for design."

What were presented is unsurprising at all. Earlier, well-known Microsoft insider Paul Thurrott claimed the next Surface Pro upgrade will be far from game-changing as the bumps will be minimal. And if the press shots shared by @evleaks are to go by, the Thurrott will end up telling the truth.

But there will be notable changes and improvements if Microsoft will stay true on its word that it will showcase "what's next." Apparently, that would be in the form of wider choice for the Surface Pro 5 accessories, specifically "some new pen and keyboard colors," according to iDownloadBlog.com.

And there is the promise of significant specs bumps mostly affecting the inside components. The internal memory is likely to be increased as well as the RAM provision. But a nearly certain step up will be on the processing department. The chance is high Microsoft will be using Intel's most updated for the refreshed Pro 5.

That would be Intel Kaby Lake or its souped up version - the Kaby Lake-X processor.

But really the Surface Pro 5 is most anticipated because of one very powerful feature that hardwired with Windows 10. "The device is powered by an Intel chip, allowing it to transform from a tablet to a full-on computer capable of running Windows, Office and other real desktop applications," iDB said on its report.

This feature will be further highlighted as out of the box the Surface Pro 5 will power up with Windows 10 Creators Update, currently rolling out for the rest of the world.

The Evan Blass leaks did not include release date details but as mentioned above the device availability is likely to happen soon or immediately the May 23 introduction by Microsoft all the way from Shanghai.
