'Overwatch' DLC Update: Anniversary Event Release Date, Game of the Year Announcement Confirmed; Three New Maps, Updated Loot Boxes Revealed [VIDEOS]

New details for "Overwatch" will feature the release date of the Anniversary event, Game of the Year, three new maps and updated loot boxes.

Blizzard Entertainment made an official announcement regarding the release date of "Overwatch's" anniversary event and it will start on May 23 to June 12, with the addition of another free to play of the game May 26-29 in all gaming platforms.

Not only that, the "Overwatch Game of the Year" Edition will launch on May 23. Players will have ten Loot Boxes with random items such as credits, skins, emotes, poses voice lines, sprays and highlight intros. There is also Mercy’s wings for "Diablo 3" players, Tracer for Heroes of the Storm, Hero Skins such as Vintage skins for Blackwatch Reyes, Strike-Commander Morrison, Overgrown Bastion, Security Chief Pharah, and Slipstream Tracer.

The "Game of the Year Edition" will also have the "StarCraft 2" in-game Portraits of Bastion, Tracer, Pharah, Reaper, Soldier: 76 and Winston. An "Overwatch" themed "Hearthstone" Card Back and baby Winston pet to use in "World of Warcraft," VG 24/7 reported.

In other news, Blizzard Entertainment showcased three new maps coming to "Overwatch" next week for the anniversary event.

The maps appear to be set in new areas of the existing maps from Eichenwalde, Temple of Anubis and Dorado maps. The new Dorado area will feature Sombra's base of operations, an overgrown and dark Eichenwalde and an underground excavation site in Temple of Anubis.

Lastly, Game director Jeff Kaplan teased gaming fans update items in loot boxes next week. He told Polygon that the loot box refresh will target a few cosmetic features that fans have previously requested such as laughing and sitting emotes for heroes Orisa and Sombra.

Furthermore, Polygon reports Blizzard will add the fan-favorite shrug action Gabriel "Reaper" Reyes enacted in the recent "Overwatch Uprising" comic as an emote. A teaser of the new emotes has been streamed featuring Sombra, Lucio and Zenyatta dancing.

"Overwatch" is currently available for the PS4, Xbox One and PC platforms.
