Science recently discovered that people who are more active are likely to delay the aging process. By simply jogging for at least 30 minutes per day, one could reap such health benefit.

Based on recent research from the Brigham Young University in Provo, UT, it has been discovered that regular running for at least 30 to 40 minutes per day for five days each week can decrease cellular aging by nine years, according to Medical News Today. Such activity also reduces the shortening of telomeres, which serves as the protective caps at the ends of chromosomes.

Aging is primarily caused by oxidative stress, which great causes for telomere to shorten. Poor lifestyle and lack of exercise have been mainly associated with cellular damage resulting from free radicals.

In the said study conducted by Prof. Larry Tucker of the Department of Exercise Sciences at Brigham, he was able to find out that a little exercise won't be enough to slow biological aging. Comparing the length of telomere between sedentary participants and those who were moderately active, he determined that there was no significant difference at all.

However, with individuals who jog at least 30 to 40 minutes per day, telomere lengths representing a biological age of 9 years less were highly noticeable. And as compared to those who were moderately active, people who regularly run exhibited at least a biological age of 7 years less.

Apart from slowing the aging process, running also has many health benefits. A regular jogging session per day likewise helps build strong bones and muscle. It also improves cardiovascular fitness, while contributing to maintaining weight.

However, as a means of caution, before you indulge in such physical activity, it would be good to have a check-up first to determine any medical conditions that may put them at a higher risk of a experiencing a health problem during physical activity, according to Better Health. It's better to be sure than sorry.
