Apple will reportedly unveil the new iPhone 8 smartphone in September this year.

The Cupertino-based company recently reported its second quarter earnings results.

While its earnings surpassed the tech company's target, some of the numbers fell short of what most analysts predicted, Business Insider reported.

Morgan Stanley's Katy Huberty said that a combination of a growing base of old iPhones and thrilling new technology, including fast/wireless charging, 3D sensors, and OLED screens would drive an iPhone supercycle.

JPMorgan's Rod Hall said that there is a likelihood that Apple plans to preview or announce the iPhone 8 at Apple Worldwide Developers Conference which begins on June 5.

Given this, analysts anticipate a weaker than usual summer for the tech giant as customers await a huge product upgrade.

Hall further said that they would recommend people to stock up on AAPL before the iPhone mania starts in June.

The Cupertino-based Apple unveiled the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 3G at WWDC. However, the software company broke the trend when it introduced the iPhone 4s smartphone in October 2011, and every new iPhone since then has been unveiled in September.

It is possible that the company could unveil the new smartphone at WWDC. However, it does not make sense for some reasons.

There are rumors that the iPhone 8 is facing production challenges which can push the device's availability to October or November.

Furthermore, the company pre-announcing the iPhone 8 in June will likely hurt its sales during the summer quarter, as a few consumers may choose to wait till the newest model is available.

Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, has acknowledged a recent pause in iPhone purchases that he thinks is due to frequent reports about future iPhones, The Verge reported.

Meanwhile, it is expected that the upcoming Apple iPhone 8 will sport a brand new design that includes an improved screen-to-body ratio.

The tech company will reportedly embed a sensor into the bottom of the screen. However, there are talks that manufacturing problems could end up delaying the launch of iPhone 8 by one or two months. The iPhone 8 will reportedly have a fingerprint scanner on its back.
