Elon Musk's vision of an elaborate high-speed transportation system has finally gone beyond concept. However, although the Hyperloop is on its way, there are still many challenges it would need to overcome before it could significantly alter current transportation system.

The first testing of Musk's brainchild will soon take place as one of the 12 companies vying for the developer position has finally completed a test track. The test will occur in the Nevada desert near Las Vegas, according to The Telegraph. It will include a 500-meter long testing tunnel with less than 4 meters in diameter.

Hyperloop One, one of the companies wanting to build the high-speed transport system, believes in the vision of Tesla and SpaceX founder. As part of their bargain, they claim that their system can be created for a fraction of the cost of the currently used high-speed railway system.

However, before such concept could be applied as part of public transport, Musk and the rest of the developers would have to overcome few hurdles. One of the things to consider about the proposed new transport system is its requirement for a constant vacuum, according to Salon.

Most experts believe if the Hyperloop concept of Elon Musk would fail, the main reason for it would be the problem of maintaining an adequate vacuum over a long distance. There would surely be a difference between testing a 1,600-foot vacuum tube and the actual 400 miles long system to be established and maintained at all times.

Another significant challenge for the system that the Tesla founder is proposing is its safety. Most experts feared that any catastrophic breach of the vacuum tube would cause air to rush in at high speed. The depressurization incident will likely cause huge medical emergency, including the difficulty of getting passengers out from the tube.

Those are some of the things that the proposed high-speed transportation system would have to consider. Apart from establishing a fully operational testing area or platform, the results of the test are of great importance. It will determine how developers will move forward in trying to go beyond impediments and other concerns.
