Video game sales figures have been closely monitored to gauge the sales performance of the Nintendo Switch after its launch because the very survival of Nintendo is at stake.  In Japan, it seems Nintendo has cause to be confident since weekly sales of its hybrid home and portable game system has increased significantly over the previous week.

For the fourth-straight week, the Nintendo Switch was the top-selling game console in Japan.  The Nintendo Switch outsold the New 3DS XL, PS4, and PS Vita in the latest Japan weekly sales chart.

Not only did the Switch beat the PS4 in total weekly sales four times in a row but it has also beaten Sony's top-selling console in terms of weekly sales growth.  Sales of Nintendo's latest video game system grew from the previous week whereas sales decreased for the next three top-selling consoles, including the PS4.

Sales of the Nintendo Switch increased by 57 percent from 49,913 units to 78,441.  The New 3DS XL decreased by 11 percent from 33,352 units to 29,771.  Sales of the PS4 was at 28,805 the previous week but decreased by almost 12 percent to 25,472.  PS Vita sales dropped by 5 percent from 8,004 to 7,574.

The weekly sales results arrive in addition to the report that the Nintendo Switch had also topped the PS4 in being faster to reach half a million game consoles sold in Japan.  It took the Switch only four weeks to reach the sales milestone while Sony's console accomplished it in seven weeks.

In four weeks, Nintendo has sold 519,773 units of its video game system.  It took Sony eight weeks to sell a similar number of units for the PS4. Sony sold 439,810 PS4 units in its initial four weeks.

The video game sales figures were reported by Media Create which is a Japanese company that gathers and analyzes data from the digital entertainment industry.  It specifically focuses on the Japanese console gaming market.

The sales numbers of the Switch were achieved despite being hampered by the limited available supply of the system hardware.  These all bode well for Nintendo since it shows that the Switch can compete with the acknowledged more powerful current-generation consoles of its rivals.
