Google News & Update; Google Allo Now Has File Sharing Option And Duo Has Audio-Only calls

Google announces some modifications to its communication apps at its Google for Brazil Event in in São Paulo, Brazil, on Wednesday. One of the major changes and upgrades goes to its messaging app Google Allo that will be getting file sharing capabilities and Google Duo will be able to make audio-only calls.

When Duo originally launched, it had an odd omission wherein users could use it for a video call, but not an audio-only call.  Google has already fixed the issue, and the company says audio calls will work well even on slow connections and won't eat up much data. The feature is live in Brazil now, and will be rolled to the rest of the world "in the coming days."

Google Allo is also getting an important feature, which is file sharing. The option was a highly requested one in some markets, and now all Android users can use the app to share .pdf, .docs, .apk, .zip, and .mp3 documents.

And there's new stuff for Photos too. In the Android app, your photos will now be automatically backed up in a "lightweight preview quality" so you won't have to manually upload photos when you're not on Wi-Fi. Then, when a strong connection returns, they will be replaced with high-quality versions. However, Google says the lesser quality images will "still look great on a smartphone."

In addition to backups, Google is also making it easier for both iOS and Android users to share photos when your connection is spotty. When you try to send a batch of photos with only one bar, Google will send them in low resolution so they're sure to go through. Then, like the backups, the images will update in higher resolution when a strong connection returns.

The updates will all be rolling out to both the Android and iOS versions of the apps this week. What do you think of Google's update? Share them below.
