Uber President Jeff Jones Resigns

After a series of difficulties at Uber, the ridesharing giant now faces another crisis as its president, Jeff Jones, steps down after only six months in service.

Uber confirmed Jones' departure by stating that "We want to thank Jeff for his six months at the company and wish him all the best." His departure was directly related to the controversies mounting Uber at the moment. The company is amidst facing a series of sexual allegations and a lawsuit threatening their service.

Aside from Uber's current difficulties that Jones' found difficult to handle, Recode also reported that he had voiced out his disapproval with the company's approaches. He also cited differences in terms of his own beliefs and the company's management approaches. Uber co-founder and chief executive officer Travis Kalanick announced that he was looking for a chief operating officer (COO) to help him in terms of leadership. But bringing in a new COO meant that it would outrank Jones.

While the same source reported that Jones' decision to leave Uber wouldn't really surprise the people he worked with at his previous company, Target, BBC News reported that Uber was shocked by his sudden decision to step down. Other executives deemed that his move reflected a lack of professional courtesy.

Meanwhile, Jones is not the only executive that has currently left Uber. SVP of engineering Amit Singhal was asked to resign last February due to his failure to disclose a sexual harassment allegation filed against him when he was a former Google employee. The issue raised a concern in terms of the company's hiring process though they ensured that they conducted background checks prior to hiring candidates.

As of date, Uber's organizational chart will be facing a lot of changes though the impacts on its culture is still unclear. Earlier there were rumors that Kalanick could step down as CEO once the company hires its new COO. However, an Uber spokesperson whose identity is kept anonymous said that Kalanick stepping down was very unlikely.
