Netflix is exploring the possibility of creating versions of its original movies and TV shows to fit mobile screens over the next few years.

"It's not inconceivable that you could take a master [copy] and make a different cut for mobile," Netflix chief product officer Dr. Neil Hunt said during a press briefing in San Francisco.

The Verge reported that the concept would involve the creation of a new version of the content with more visible or immersive scenes or shots. This could mean more close up shots for ease of viewing on small screens.

The briefing was in line with a two-day event at the company's headquarters and Dolby Laboratories as the two companies gear up to promote their latest original series Marvel's Iron Fist which was launched over the weekend.

Meanwhile, Mobile Syrup reported that much of the conversation during the event was focused on Dolby Vision HDR content and the growth opportunity for mobile viewing.

While streaming of movies and TV shows still happens on TV particularly in the US and Canada, Netflix's recent statistics on mobile viewing has shown a 25 percent annual growth, especially in developing markets such as India.

"Mobile screens are the majority consumption device," Hunt said.

According to him, mobile devices' bright displays optimized for outdoor use make them a natural fit with Dolby Vision content.

The Netflix executive also mentioned the release of LG G6, billed as the first mobile device that is capable of supporting Double Vision and HDR10 content.

In January last year, Netflix announced that its video streaming service covers more than 190 countries globally. Its service has, however, not reached China.

At the end of 2016, the company reported it has 49.4 million streaming subscribers in the U.S., and about 44.4 million internationally.
