Playing "Pokemon GO" is harmless - most of the time. Recently, a Russian YouTuber was detained for playing the mobile app inside a church. He could be facing seven years and a half in jail if convicted. He went on trial on Monday for being charged with inciting hatred, but he refused to apologize to the church.

According to New York Daily News, the vlogger Ruslan Sokolovksky stood on trial on Monday for insulting the religion. Authorities charged the 22-year-old with inciting religious hatred, which he denies because after all, all he did was play "Pokemon GO" inside a church in Yekaterinburg.

Believing it safe and not against the law, he entered a church to play "Pokemon GO" and filmed it as a response to news reports warning against playing the game inside a church. The news discouraged players to do so as they can go to prison for that, and Sokolovsky did exactly that in an attempt to disprove the reports.

"How can one offend by entering a church with a smartphone?" he said in the video (via Heat Street). Many have supported his fight, including Yekaterinburg mayor Yevgeny Roizman and Russian punk band Pussy Riot. However, the Russian Orthodox Church is asking for a public apology.

During the trial, Sokolovsky stated that he will not show repentance to an organization he does not like, but he is reportedly willing to apologize to individuals whom he may have offended. He would also accept a punishment that will let him work in a charity, since it will help other people and not the church itself.

The video in question, seen below, was uploaded in August 2016. Shortly after the video was posted, authorities seized him and held him in a pre-trial detention in October. Tune in for more news as the story develops.
