Mysterious Fast Radio Bursts Caused by Alien Civilizations?

The leakage from such beams as they sweep across the sky would appear as Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs), similar to the new population of sources that was discovered recently at cosmological distances.

Mysterious fast radio bursts from outer space are apparently caused by highly advanced alien civilizations according to a new study. Scientists now suggest that these powerful pulses of energies from deep space are emitted by alien space travel.

A team from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics revealed some of their theories regarding this cosmic event in a new study. They say that these energy bursts are "leaked" from alien technology specifically from transmitters that power their interstellar probes and spacecraft that are traveling across distant galaxies.

According to theoretical physicist Avi Loeb from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, since the main source of these fast radio bursts is still unknown, an artificial origin is worth considering.

Fast radio bursts are powerful energetic pulses from an unknown location in the deep universe. Each burst only last for milliseconds before they disappear forever. The energy emitted by these fast radio bursts is so powerful that it is comparable to the amount of energy released by the sun in a span of 10,000 years.

The first fast radio burst was detected in 2007 where more than two dozen has been recorded so far. Most of them do not repeat however, there is one repeating burst known as FRB 121102 that has been traced to its original source from a dwarf galaxy 3 billion light  years away from Earth.

Fast radio bursts are only detected by a massive array of giant radio telescopes located in the Parkes Observatory in Australia and the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico. Scientists, physicists and researchers since then theorized that these mysterious, powerful phenomena could be alien communications systems, stars collapsing into black holes and super luminous exploding supernovas.

In this new study, Loeb and Harvard scientist Manasvi Lingam explore how a powerful solar radio transmitter emits these fast radio bursts in order to guide aliens for deep space travel. They also add that these can originate from photonic propulsion that powers alien spacecraft for intergalactic space travel.

The Harvard team also suggest that this cosmic radio transmitter can be possible if the amount of sunlight that reaches Earth can be twice as powerful. Lingam says this can bring passengers across intergalactic distances. Researchers also say that alien spacecraft with a light sail powered by these detected fast radio bursts is entirely possible.

This new study is published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters.
