Users of Google Chrome were alarmed after the serious cyber threat news escalated. An article from Express shares that this malicious software will make the PC vulnerable to hackers.

This will start when a Google Chrome user tries to visit a poor or unfamiliar website that has injected script or also called as "virus." The unprotected website will be unreadable; the hackers then will make a pop-up message using the message that says: "'The HoeflerText' font wasn't found," to convince the possible victim to download a third party application to solve the problem.

This message will appear to those who are using Google Chrome in a Window or Mac device. If you see this message when you visit an unfamiliar site while using Google Chrome browser, ignore it. This is a warning that the site that you are trying to visit is unprotected.

The malware was identified by NeoSmart Technologies and shared the details in a blog post. Using a JavaScript, the site will be misencoded which leads to its content's text and language to fail. The text: "'The HoeflerText' font wasn't found," will appear on the screen and offers the user to update the "Chrome's language pack" to give a solution to the problem.

At first, the prompt does not really look like a malware because it has the right logo of Google Chrome and correct blue button of the update. By clicking the update button 'Chrome Font v7.5.1.exe' will appear immediately.

What's more alarming is that Windows Defender does not recognize this as malicious software. Although the threat or damage of this malware is not yet identified, it is still better for users of Google Chrome browser in Windows and Mac to have a protection from threats of malware to have a secure browsing. Also, be extra careful in downloading unfamiliar software's and ignore the pop-up messages from compromised sites.
