Countless tech companies in America are going to be affected by President Donald Trump's recent immigration travel ban, but none of these CEOs have said something -- until now.

A week after Apple joined forces with almost a hundred other tech and corporate companies to file a legal brief against Trump's decision to bar people from seven Muslim-majority countries from traveling to the U.S., the company's CEO Tim Cook decided to say a few hard-hitting words about the issue.

During a visit to the University of Glasgow in Scotland, where he received an honorary degree, Cook talked about the beauty of "different backgrounds and all different points of views that are able to create the best products."

Cook even included Steve Jobs in his argument, noting that the late Apple founder was the son of an immigrant. "Our company has immigrants in it that are key to the innovation of our company," he said.

As for why he decided to break his silence, "Our simple view is that Apple would not exist without immigration, so this is a huge issue for us," Cook explained.

In December 2015, Cook was one among many tech leaders who met with Trump at a meeting. He later explained his decision to attend saying "Governments can affect our ability to do what we do."
