"Alpha Centauri" is the center of interest in space missions in search for stars and planets that has potential to support life. A joint effort of Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerberg, famous Cosmologist Stephen Hawking and the Russian investor Yuri Milner is in the exploration mission to Earth's stellar neighbor. The project is dubbed as Breakthrough Starshot and the main goal is to send probes to Alpha Centauri in the near future.

Meanwhile, earlier initiatives are in the pipeline this year to get images of the "Alpha Centauri" system and one of this is Project Blue, according to EscienceNews. The Earth when viewed in outer space is blue, an appearance that indicates the presence of liquid water like seas and oceans. The other signal of a potential to be a habitable planet like Earth is that it has blue colored atmosphere.

The project of getting pictures of Proxima system within the year is an initial step that will lead space explorers to identify a candidate planet. According to Space, scientists have seen great potential for Planet Proxima B, which has a mass of 1.3 times that of Earth and is found to be in the habitable zone of "Alpha Centauri".

Additionally, Proxima B as reported by Telegiz, is cooler and appears more red in color that the Earth's sun can qualify to be the host of an Earth-like rocky planet. The leading breakthrough of Project Blue has triggered the "Breakthrough Starshot" program of Marc Zuckerberg and his partners to concentrate efforts towards a mission to Proxima B.

The only hindering factor at present is the technology to get there. For more updates on "Alpha Centauri" space explorations in search of potential habitable planets, stay tuned to Telegiz.
