Tech Times reported that he did not include any specific reason in the email and simply included the dates which he would resign. Lattner said that he wanted to pursue some other professional field and hence was quitting Apple's Swift.

Chris Lattner's departure comes after eleven years of serving Apple where his main work was the creation of the programming language, Swift. This was immensely helpful as it made the development of applications for Apple platforms like iOS and MacOS possible. However, Lattner has more to his name than the creation of Swift, according to Apple Insider.

He is known for developing the Clang compiler as well as for his brilliant design, LLVM compiler optimization infrastructure. Before the creation of Swift, Apple used another programming language, Objective-C, and Lattner was a major part of its evolution as well. In addition, he has experience working with Apple's Xcode software and as the director of the Developer Tools Department at the company.

Lattner expressed great appreciation for Apple and talked highly of his experience there, calling it a "unique experience for a lifetime." Lattner's position at Apple's Swift will be filled by Ted Kremenek.
