Asus Confirms ZenFone AR Will Pack 8GB of RAM

Asus recently revealed one important detail about the company's upcoming ZenFone AR flagship smartphone. Asus took the stage at this year's Consumer Electronics Show to confirm that the ZenFone AR will pack a massive 8GB of memory along with a handful of high-end hardware.

Prior to Asus' confirmation at CES, chip manufacturer Qualcomm inadvertently released a marketing poster of the ZenFone AR on its website. The poster was eventually taken down but not before tech analysts got their hands on it.

According to NDTV, Asus confirmed that the ZenFone AR would have a 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED display with 2560 x 1440 resolution. The display is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 4. At the heart of the flagship smartphone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset. The phone comes in two variants: one has 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM while the other one has 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM.

In terms of storage space, the Asus ZenFone AR comes in a handful of configuration: 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB all in UFS2.0 storage setup. Standard perks also include microSD support for storage expansion, dual-SIM configuration, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 and USB Type-C support.

Powering the smartphone is a 3,300mAh battery pack. Since the phone has a Qualcomm chipset, it is expected to support Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 technology. Asus confirmed that the phone would run on the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system.

In terms of camera specs, the Asus ZenFone AR has four. The phone has three camera sensors on the rear, and one front-facing selfie shooter. Asus equipped the ZenFone AR with a TriCam camera system to be capable of rendering Project Tango contents, according to BGR.

The Asus ZenFone AR packs a lot of high-end hardware. However, some in the tech community are a bit disappointed that Asus did not pick the newer and more powerful Snapdragon 835 to power the device. Nevertheless, the Snapdragon 821 chipset should be capable of handling all the processing requirements demanded by Project Tango and Daydream VR.
