Rumors are abuzz that British lightweight sportscar manufacturer Caterham is looking for a partner to build mainstream cars. The company is reportedly seeking a car manufacturer to work with on its idea for a brand new, all-enclosed sports car. Boasting of a naturally aspirated front engine, the hypothetical sports car has generated hype in the automobile community.

Previously, Caterham collaborated with Renaults to expand its reach. The joint project was supposed to produce the $40,000 alternative to the Nissan 370Z which was named C120. The project, however, was left unfinished and the aforementioned car never hit the markets. Building on that deep sense of regret now, Caterham aims to find an innovative partner to help build its next automobile.

The company also revealed its desire to resume work on the C120 project again with Renault. According to The Drive, with a limited share in the market, Caterham is not faring well right now. There is only a single car in its lineup, the hardcore Seven. But Seven is an almost half a century old model, and it is high time that Caterham introduces an addition to its lineup.

Caterham CEO Graham McDonald has linked the lack of strong partners to the dearth of recognition the company has in the international market, according to Road And Track. Due to this, it lacks strong funding as well which makes it next to impossible to carry out innovative new projects.

The company has reportedly approached some interested parties and is in talks with them.
