Tesla Motors Inc. and Panasonic are partnering to advance solar technology in the United States. The latest reports suggest that the latter company will provide solar panels for the project.

According to Nikkei Asia, Panasonic will deliver solar panels manufactured in Kedah, Malaysia, and Kaizuka, Japan to Tesla. Both companies are planning to penetrate the US market through SolarCity.

The Japanese multinational electronic corporation will send Japanese technicians to the center of the project operations, the Gigafactory, to create "more efficient panels in the future."

"Panasonic is also speeding up preparations for the start of joint operations at a SolarCity panel factory in New York state," Nikkei Asia added.

Despite the possible influx of Japanese technicians, SolarCity is also scouting for production workers who can do clerical works, shipping, material handling, and manufacturing in the Buffalo plant.

The deal is expected to help to address the limitations of SolarCity's manufacturing. Tesla aims to get assistance from the Japanese company to create solar cells and modules. The panels that will be created by the collaborative project will work with Tesla batteries and powergrids installed in buildings and homes.

This is not the first time Tesla will be working with the Japan-based company. The latter is currently the strategic battery supplier of Nevada-based Gigafactory and the battery supplier for Tesla Model X and Model S vehicles. The American automaker said that sticking with its business partner will deliver "fully integrated energy products."

Panasonic is a major supplier of solar panels across Asia. However, the plummeting demand for rooftop solar installation in its home country has forced the company to close its Osaka plant. With Tesla in the picture, the company will be able to reopen its factory next year.

The official announcement of the collaborative project is expected to be made before the end of 2016.
